If you are using Firefox as your browser and are using either version 3.6.9 or 3.6.10, you may have noticed some problems when attempting to insert an image or file link using the text editor.
- When inserting an image, you will get a "broken" image.
- When inserting a link to a file, the link text will appear to be a link, but will not actually link to anything.
This bug effects the way the two most recent Firefox releases handle certain elements of "WYSWIWYG" text editor operations, and this problem is effecting many web applications, and is not specific to Joomla! or SoapBox.
The Firefox development team is aware of this problem, and it has been marked as a "high priority" fix, so we expect the issue to be resolved in the next release of their software (3.6.11).
In the meantime, PICnet recommends the following workarounds:
- Use Internet Explorer (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx) or Apple's Safari browsers (Safari is available for Windows as well as Mac OSX. - http://www.apple.com/safari/download/).
- Roll back your version of Firefox to 3.6.8. There are various sites that offer older versions of Firefox. Please beware of malware when installing software that is not from the Firefox website itself.
- If you are not allowed to install new software on your computer, you might try the Spoon Browser Sandbox. This allows you to run Internet Explorer and older versions of Firefox from within your current installation of Firefox without having to install anything at all. You can find it here: http://spoon.net/browsers/
We will issue another general notification when the new release of Firefox (3.6.11) is available, so that you may upgrade at that time. We expect that this will permanently resolve the issue.
For more technical details and lively discussions of this bug, here is a conversation about it on the Joomla! Forum: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=2266026 and here is the actual bug report at Firefox: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=596300
Thank you, and please let us know if you have any questions.
Best regards,
