Soapbox comes with the "All Videos Plugin", which allows you to insert videos into content pages very easily. If you try the following steps and it does not work, please contact our support department. We may have to simply turn it on for you.
Embed a video that's been uploaded to a video sharing service:
1) Go to http://www.youtube.com/ or http://video.google.com/ or one of the video-sharing websites listed below at the end of this page.
2) Follow the procedures listed on these sites to upload your video to their site.
3) After successfully uploading the video to one of these sites, view the video on their site to obtain the URL that looks something like these...
Youtube Video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=zl3zutr19PYA
Google Video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2678818167449292156
3b) Next, copy the part of the URL that comes AFTER the equals (=) sign; 'zl3zutr19PYA' from the YouTube example and '-2678818167449292156' from the Google example.
4) Log into your website administrator using your unique username and password
5) Go to Static Content Manager or All Content Items
6) Create/edit the page on which you want to add your video
7) In the text area where you would usually insert your content, simply type in the following code. (Note: replace the number/symbol string between brackets with the string that you copied from your own video's URL:
8) Click on "Save" or "Apply" on the top-right of the page
9) Open another tab or window in your browser and go to the page where you inserted the video to confirm that the video is showing
Notes:
If you would like to do one of the following, please contact our support team.
- Change default dimensions of videos that are displayed on your site
- Change the padding around the video
- Have other questions or concerns about this feature
Embed a Video in a Module or Dynamic Content with Tags (for advanced users)
Unfortunately, using the AllVideo Plugin method with modules is a little trickier. Following the steps above, the videos don't render correctly in modules or advanced tagged dynamic content. What happens is that the script itself is shown like the following instead of the video:
{flvremote}http://media.csis.org/gsi/081009_aging7.flv{/flvremote}
So what to do? Just a few additional steps...
- Make sure your Editor is set to NO WYSIWYG when working in the administrator for this.
- Insert the AllVideo Plugin script into a content item following steps 1 -9 above. Save and Publish it.
- On the frontend, navigate to the page where you just added the video. In your browser menu, go to View->Source and locate where the AllVideo Plugin script is. It's everything between the <!—JW AllVideos Plugin (v2.4) starts here—> and <!—JW AllVideos Plugin (v2.4) ends here—> tags.
- Copy all the code that appears between the Object tags. For example:
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab..." style="width:320px; height:240px;" title="AllVideos Player">
<param name="movie" value="http://gsicsis.nonprofitsoapbox.com/mambots/content/plugin_jw_allvi..." />
<param name="quality" value="high" />
<param name="wmode" value="transparent" />
<param name="bgcolor" value="#FFFFFF">
<embed src="http://gsicsis.nonprofitsoapbox.com/mambots/content/plugin_jw_allvi..." quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#FFFFFF" style="width:320px; height:240px;"></embed>
</object>
- Paste this code into your the text area of the module (or Intro Text area of your dynamic content item) for the video to render correctly. Feel free to modify the dimensions of the video by changing the width and height of the video.
