Publicizing Your Site: Meta description and keywords: How do I find out which are on my site?

New to the concept of meta descriptions and keywords?  New to your organization's site and looking to get more acquainted?  Or just wanting are refresher in how your site is seen by Google and other search engines?  A good place to start is to review what meta description and keywords your site currently has.  To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Open a web browser
  2. Navigate to your website
  3. View the Page Source of the website by doing the following, depending on your browser of choice:
    1. In Internet Explorer, go to View > Source
    2. In Firefox, go to View > Page Source
    3. In Safari, go to Page menu > View Source
  4. In the window that appears, search for the text: <meta name="description" content=
  5. Note the text in quotes after the content tag.  This is your site's meta description.
  6. Next, search for the text: <meta name="keywords" content=
  7. Note the text in quotes after the content tag.  These are your site's meta keywords.
