updated

calendar-mod-screenshot.jpgCalendar modules allow you to display a dynamic calendar of events managed in Soapbox Events across multiple pages on your site.

Soapbox Events is an add on service available for Non-Profit Soapbox sites. Click here to learn more.

Adding a Module

To add a Calendar module to your site:

  1. Go to Extensions > Module Manager
  2. Click New in the upper right
  3. Click Events Calendar
  4. For Title in the Module [Edit] view, enter a title for the module
  5. For Show Title, select No or Yes to hide or show the title to the end user
  6. For Enabled, select No or Yes to hide or show the module on the front end of your site
  7. For Position, select the position in which you wish the module to appear. To review your site's module positions, read Module Manager: View module positions on your site.
  8. For Order, select the order in which you wish this module to appear, relative to the other modules set to the same module position
  9. For Access Level, choose Public, Registered, or Special, depending on which type of end user you wish to view the module. If your site does not restrict access to content by requiring individuals to login or you wish all end users to view this module, leave this as Public.
  10. Under Menu Assignment, select which menu items on which you wish the module to appear. To display the module on all pages, leave this as All. If you wish to choose to display it on specific pages only, choose Select Menu Item(s) from the List and select the appropriate menu items. For further instructions on this process, read Module Manager: Publish a module to a given page.

  11. If you wish to filter the events appearing in the calendar module by term:
    1. In the right column under Parameters > Module Parameters, click Select next to Terms
    2. In the popup, select the terms you wish to use.
    3. Click Save
  12. For Display Month Controls, choose whether or not to allow a visitor to change the month of the calendar
  13. For Display Year Controls, choose whether or not to allow a visitor to change the year of the calendar
  14. For Orientation of Popup, select Left or Right, depending on which side of the date box you wish the popup to appear. This parameter is particularly useful if the module is appearing in a side column and you wish to ensure that the popup for days at the end of the week do not run off the page.
  15. For Link to Menu Item, choose the menu item you wish the event detail page to be associated with when a visitor clicks an event title in the popup of the calendar. For instance, if you have an events calendar page as a main menu item called Upcoming Events, you would likely choose Upcoming Events in this drop down.
  16. Relative Month Modifier allows you to override the default setting of the module display the current month when the page loads. To do so, enter the number of months before of after the current month to which you wish to jump. For instance, to show the next month, enter 1. To show the previous month, enter -1.

This parameter is helpful in conjunction with Display Month Controls and Display Year Controls, if you wish to show multiple calendar modules on a single page so a visitor can see, say, the next three months of events at once. To do so, create multiple versions of the calendar. Turn off Display Month Controls and Display Year Control for each. For Relative Month Modifier, leave one blank, set one to 1, and set the third to 2. This will display the next three months of events.
  17. For Day Column Header Style, choose how the day of the week is displayed. In most cases, the default of "S" will be best since the module will be small and won't have much room to display longer versions of the day.
  18. For Month Controls, choose how the buttons to move the month into the future or past are displayed
  19. For Year Controls, choose how the buttons to move the year into the future or past are displayed
  20. Click Save
