Create and apply a template with Insert/Edit Template

If you have a standard layout for a given article type that you wish to use for content that you create, the Insert/Edit Template icon in the editor is able to create templates from existing content that can be applied to new articles, thus saving valuable time and creating greater consistency across the site. A template can be created from an entire article or a specific selection of an article.

To create a template from an existing content item:

  1. Navigate to the content item you for you wish to manage the template
  2. Click Insert/Edit Template

  3. Click Create Template

  4. Enter a name in the Name field

  5. In the Type drop down box, choose "Template"
  6. Click OK

To create a template from a portion of an existing content item to be used within another article:

  1. Navigate to the content item you for you wish to manage the template
  2. Using the cursor, select the portion of the article you wish to use
  3. Click Insert/Edit Template
  4. Click Create Template
  5. Enter a name in the Name field
  6. In the Type drop down box, choose "Snippet"
  7. Click OK

To apply an entire template to a new article:

  1. Navigate to the content item you for you wish to manage the template
  2. Click Insert/Edit Template
  3. Select the desired template from the list
  4. Click Insert

To apply a template snippet within an existing article:

  1. Navigate to the content item you for you wish to manage the template
  2. Place the cursor in the editor at the point where you wish to apply the template
  3. Click Insert/Edit Template
  4. Select the desired template from the list
  5. Click Insert

NOTE: Insert/Edit Template applies standardized formats for content to an individual article.  It doesn't relate to the site-wide template that governs the look and feel of your entire site.  If you'd like to change items associated with that master template, contact us!
