Adding a link to another site

So you are creating some new content, and you want to link to another website.  It’s actually pretty easy, if you use the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor.
 
Just follow these steps:
 

1) Navigate to the content item that you would like to add a link to

 2) At the spot where you would like the link to appear, enter the anchor text.  For example, if you are linking to http://picnet.net, you could put the text, “A great company!”

4) Then, select (or, highlight) that text.

5) Now, click the “link” button in the editor above the text box. 

This will bring up the link manager popup box:

6) In the “URL” field, enter the url that you want the link to go to.  In our example here, you would enter “http://picnet.net”

7) In the “Attributes” box near the bottom, you will determing which “target” behaviour you want the link to have.  You will see the following options:
 
Open in this window / frame - This option will keep the visitor in the same window when they click the link.  This will navigate them away from your website.  If the link appears in an iframe, it will open it within the same frame.

Open in a new window - This will open a new window for the link, keeping the window that the vistor was in open for the visitor.

Open in parent window / frame - This will open the new page in the same window similar to  Open in this window / frame.  However if the link is in an iframe, the the link will open in the frame or window that contains it, e.g. it’s “parent.”

Open in top frame (replaces all frames) -  This will open the new page in the same window similar to  Open in this window / frame.  However if the link is in an iframe, the the link will open in the outermost frame, regardless of which iframe the link is in.

8) Click “Insert”

You will see that your anchor text has turned into a link.  Save the article, and you should be all set!
