Question: Is there a way to protect downloadable files on Soapbox? I have a login area where we post private content. If I have downloadable material there, such as PDF, DOC or XLS files, with they be protected as well?
Answer: While it's possible to protect Soapbox content - such as articles - behind a password, downloadable files are stored directly on the server, not in Soapbox. As such, anyone who has the URL of the file will be able to access it. Additionally, Google may be able to find and index these files.
If you want to store sensitive downloadable files, you would want to consider using a third party file-hosting solution that will allow you to password protect the downloadable files themselves, or to place them in a password-protected directory.
