Update on the Google Civic API Sunset & Soapbox Engage’s Seamless Transition
As you may have heard, Google is sunsetting part of its Google Civic API on April 30, 2025, specifically, the service that provides elected official contact information. However, not all of the Google Civic API is going away, and Soapbox Engage has you covered.
We’re proactively transitioning before February 28, 2025, well ahead of the sunset date, to a new service that offers the same (if not better!) capabilities for advocacy actions. This means zero impact on your organization or supporters using the Soapbox Engage Actions app. Your advocacy campaigns will continue running seamlessly, and no action is needed by you.
We will continue leveraging Google Civic API for district matching where it remains available, but elected official contact lookups will move to a new, fully supported solution. Again, no action is required by you during this transition.

_________
Google announced in April 2024, that it plans to retire its Representatives API in April 2025. This service is used by the Soapbox Engage Actions app to match supporter addresses with elected officials, such as finding the member of the US House of Representatives that represents a constituent’s address.
Our team is in the process of determining an alternative solution for this matching functionality. We will keep the community informed of this progress, and look forward to providing updates as soon as they’re available. For now, you can rest assured that your current setup will continue to function as normal.
For any additional questions, please open a support ticket and a member of our team can provide further details related to your account.
