Collecting a payment with a QR code

updated

The QR code method hands the payment to the payer's own phone. Your staff member shows a code on the staff device, the payer scans it, and pays on a secure page — including with a mobile wallet if they use one. No reader is needed and no card details pass through your staff member's hands.

To collect a payment by QR code:

  1. Complete the donation, order, or bidder record as normal.
  2. Tap Collect Payment.
  3. Tap QR Code.
  4. Show the screen to the payer and ask them to scan the code with their phone camera.
  5. Wait while the payer completes payment on their own phone.

The app waits and confirms as soon as the payment goes through.

Note: The payer needs a phone with a camera and a working connection of their own. If theirs is not cooperating, tap the option to open the payment link and pass the device to them instead.

Cancelling

To stop waiting, tap Cancel Payment and confirm. The payer's QR code stops working immediately, so they cannot complete it afterwards. If they change their mind, start again and show them a fresh code.

If the payer's first attempt fails

A declined card or an abandoned page does not lose the donation or the order. The app lets your team offer the code again so the payer can retry on their own device, rather than starting the whole sale over.

Which to use, QR code or reader

Use a reader when you have one — it is faster and needs nothing from the payer's phone. Use the QR code when you have no reader, when every reader is busy, or when the payer would rather use their own wallet.
