Saving a bidder's card and setting their auction default

updated

A bidder needs a card on file before they can take part in an auction. Your team can save one at the registration desk in whichever way suits the moment — on a card reader, by sending the bidder a link to enter it on their own phone, or by typing it on the staff device.

To save a card for a bidder:

  1. Tap Auctions in the app.
  2. Tap the auction you are working.
  3. Tap Manage Bidders.
  4. Find the bidder and open their record.
  5. Under Saved cards, tap Save Payment Method.
  6. Choose one of the three options.
Option What happens
Use Terminal Reader The bidder taps or inserts their card on a Stripe Terminal reader.
Use QR Code The bidder scans a code and enters their card on their own phone.
Enter card on this device Your staff member types the bidder's card details on the staff device.

The app confirms Card saved when the card is on file. Nothing is charged at this point — the card is stored for use during the auction.

Important: A bidder with no card on file cannot participate. The app says so on their record: Add a payment method to participate in the auction. Save a card at registration rather than chasing it once bidding has started.

Setting the auction default

A bidder may have more than one card on file from previous events. The card marked Auction Default is the one this auction will use.

  1. Open the bidder's record.
  2. Under Saved cards, find the card you want to use.
  3. Tap Set Auction Default.

The card is marked as the default for this auction. Cards saved on a reader are labelled so your team can tell them apart from ones the bidder entered themselves.
