At a fundraising event, the moment a guest is standing at the desk is the easiest moment all evening to get a card on file. Soapbox Engage Onsite lets your team save one as part of checking them in — without charging anything.
The card is stored for later authorized use: bidding at an auction, settling a balance, or a gift the guest agrees to afterwards.
To save a card as you check a guest in:
- Check the guest in as normal, by scanning or from the list.
- On the Success! confirmation, tap Add Payment Method.
- Choose how to capture the card.
- Follow the prompts for that method.
The app confirms Card saved, and you are returned to check-in to take the next guest.
Three ways to capture the card
| Option | What the guest does |
|---|---|
| Use Terminal Reader | Taps or inserts their card on a Stripe Terminal reader |
| Use QR Code | Scans a code and enters their card on their own phone |
| Enter card on this device | Hands you the card to type on the staff device |
Important: Nothing is charged. This saves the card for later use only. Say so to the guest — people hesitate at a card request when they have not been told what it is for.
Saving a card for a guest already checked in
You do not have to catch them at the moment of check-in.
- Open the attendee list.
- Find the guest.
- Tap the payment method button on their row.
A guest who already has a card on file shows as such, and the option becomes Update Payment Method.
Guests without a Soapbox account
A guest who has never had an account on your site does not need one. The app links their card to a record for them automatically as part of saving it.
