Signing in with a passkey

updated

A passkey lets a staff member sign in with Face ID, Touch ID, or a fingerprint instead of typing a username and password. At a door with a queue in front of it, that is the difference between three seconds and thirty.

Adding a passkey to a device

The staff member does this themselves, on the device they will be using, while signed in.

  1. Sign in to the app with a username and password.
  2. Tap Profile.
  3. Under Passkeys, tap Add this device.
  4. Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or the device's fingerprint reader.

The device is added to their list of passkeys and can be used from then on.

Note: If the Passkeys section says it is not supported on this device, the device or browser does not offer biometric sign-in. Sign in with a username and password instead — nothing else is affected.

Signing in with a passkey

  1. Open the app.
  2. Enter the staff member's username.
  3. Tap Use Passkey.
  4. Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or a fingerprint.

One passkey per device

A passkey belongs to the device it was created on, not to the person. A staff member who works one event on their own phone and the next on a borrowed tablet has a passkey on the phone only — on the tablet they sign in with their password, and can add a passkey there if they will use it again.

Important: Do not add a passkey to a shared device that other people will use, unless you are happy for anyone holding it to sign in as that person. On shared devices, sign in with a username and password and sign out at the end of each shift.

Removing a passkey

The Passkeys section in Profile lists the devices a staff member has registered. Remove one from there — for a lost phone, or a device that has been passed on to someone else.
