Updating an existing Stripe webhook for subscription cancellations and Auctions card requests

updated

If your organization already has a Soapbox Engage webhook in Stripe, you can add events to it so Soapbox Engage also hears about:

  • Subscriptions cancelled directly in Stripe, which are then marked cancelled in Soapbox Engage. This needs the customer.subscription.deleted event.
  • Cards bidders add through Auctions card requests, which are then saved as their card for that auction. This needs the checkout.session.completed event. Until it is added, the Auctions app reports that Stripe's webhook is missing the saved-card event and does not send card requests.

To add the events, start in Stripe:

  1. Log in to Stripe.
  2. Click Developers.
  3. Click the Webhooks tab.
  4. Click your Soapbox Engage webhook. Its URL ends in /component/donations/transactionNotification or option=com_donations&task=transactionNotification.

The next steps depend on your Stripe dashboard.

Option 1: Workbench is not enabled

  1. In the upper right, next to the endpoint URL, click the ... menu and select Update details.
  2. For Select events to listen to, add any of these that are not already selected:
    • checkout.session.completed
    • customer.subscription.deleted
    • customer.subscription.updated
    • invoice.payment_succeeded
  3. Click Update endpoint.

Option 2: Workbench is enabled

  1. Click the ... menu for the destination and select Edit destination.
  2. For Events, add any of these that are not already selected:
    • checkout.session.completed
    • customer.subscription.deleted
    • customer.subscription.updated
    • invoice.payment_succeeded
  3. Click Save destination.

Note: If the Auctions app says Stripe's webhook for your site is turned off, open the webhook in Stripe and enable it. Then click Check again in the Auctions app.
