Creating a Designation Category

Designation Categories are a means of categorizing Designations that you create in Soapbox that is for internal use only and not presented to the front-end visitors. A Designation can be assigned to one and only one Designation Category and Designation Categories cannot be nested within other Designation Categories.

The Designation Category structure you create in Soapbox may be related to funds or general accounting units used by your organization but this is not required.

To create a Designation Category:

  1. In the administrator, navigate to Donations > Designation Categories
     
  2. Click the New button in the top-right corner from the toolbar menu. 



     
  3. In the Add Designation Category modal, complete the following fields:
     
    1. Name (required)
      This is the internal and public-facing name of the category. It’s required and must be at least one alphanumeric character. This is what will appear on the front-end if categories are shown to donors.

       
    2. Description (optional)
      Use this field to describe the purpose or context of the category. This is primarily for internal use and does not display on the donation page.

       
    3. Published (required)
      Choose Yes to make the category active and available when assigning designations. If set to No, the category will not appear to be selectable for new designations.

       
  4. Click Save to add the category, or Cancel to exit without saving.
