With Donations modal popups, you can add them anywhere on your website and trigger them through a parameter appended to the URL of a page on your site.
To trigger a Donations modal popup on your website, you'll need to do the following:
- Add the installation code for the Donations modal popup to your website. This only needs to be done once by your website administrator. It does not need to be repeated for each Donations modal popup after being added initially.
- Create a Donations page in Soapbox Engage to use as the Donations modal popup, making sure to customize the parameters in the Donation Modal Popup section on the Integration tab. If you wish, you can use an existing Donations form in Soapbox Engage, though it is recommended that you use a Donation form created specifically to be used as a Donations modal popup.
- Go to the Integrations tab of the add/edit Donations page you will use as your modal popup. In the Donations Modal Popup section, click the Copy button next to the URL Parameter element to your clipboard. It will look similar to this:
?sbxdonationsmodal=sbx19
- Add the URL Parameter to the end of any URL on your website that has the installation code and share it however you wish - over social media, through an email, creating a link on your site. The full URL will look like this:
https://www.yourorg.org/donate-now?sbxdonationsmodal=sbx19
How does URL Parameter approach differ from adding a link to an individual modal?
This method of triggering a Donations modal is different from adding a link on a given page that is described here:
Adding a link to a Donations modal popup on your website
Unlike that method which requires you to create an anchor link on the page of your website where you wish to trigger the modal for a particular Donations app page, the URL parameter approach allows you to open the any modal without creating any anchor link on the parent page or editing the page in any way - beyond ensuring that the installation code is present.
Can I still include a hyperlink on my website that opens a Donations modal using the URL Parameter method?
Yes! Absolutely.
Can I used the URL Parameter method to open the same parent page but trigger entirely different Donations app modals?
Totally! Once you have the installation code on your website, you can open the Donations modal for any Donations app page just by changing the Id in the URL parameter - even if you keep the same URL for the main page.
As an example, let's say you have the following Donations app pages for a year-end giving campaign:
- Donations Page Title: Year-End Giving Drive FYXX - High Value
Donations Page Description: Donations modal for EOY Giving Drive targeting High Value Donors
Id: 20
Popup Title: Support our Year-End Giving Drive - Donations Page Title: Year-End Giving Drive - FYXX - Lapsed
Donations Page Description: Donations modal for EOY Giving Drive targeting Lapsed Recurring Donors
Id: 21
Popup Title: Renew Your Support for our Year-End Giving Drive - Donations Page Title: Year-End Giving Drive - FYXX - New
Donations Page Description: Donations modal for EOY Giving Drive targeting New Donors
Id: 22
Popup Title: Become a Supporter for our Year-End Giving Drive
Let's say the URL on your main website for your end-of-year giving campaign is the following:
https://www.myorg.org/year-end-giving
With just the installation code added to your site so that it is included on the Year-End Giving page, each of these URLs can be used to trigger unique Donations app pages targeting specific groups:
https://www.myorg.org/year-end-giving?sbxdonationsmodal=sbx20
https://www.myorg.org/year-end-giving?sbxdonationsmodal=sbx21
https://www.myorg.org/year-end-giving?sbxdonationsmodal=sbx22
Can I use both methods - the URL Parameter and link method - on the same page for different modals?
Yep! Both methods can be used simultaneously.
