If your Donation form is set up with a processing fee percentage, the Review screen offers the donor the option to cover it, so the full amount they intended reaches your organization.
The option appears as Cover processing fees, with the explanation So the full donation goes to the organization.
To offer it:
- Take a donation as normal through to the Review screen.
- Turn on Cover processing fees.
- Check the new total with the donor.
- Tap Collect Payment.
The total updates on screen, and that updated total is what gets charged.
Note: The option is off by default. Your team has to turn it on, which means asking the donor — as it should be.
How the amount is worked out
The fee is added on top so that your organization receives the full gift after processing costs. A $100 gift with a 2.9% fee is charged at $102.99, not $102.90 — the extra is what makes the organization net the whole $100 rather than falling slightly short.
The amount shown on the screen is exactly the amount charged.
If the option does not appear
The option only appears when the Donation form that Soapbox Engage Onsite uses has a processing fee percentage set. If your team cannot find it, check that form's fee setting. See Choosing the donation form Engage Onsite uses.
In the transaction record
Gifts where the donor covered the fee record both the gift and the fee, so your reporting can separate what the donor gave from what the processing cost.
