Troubleshooting a Salesforce FIELD_CUSTOM_VALIDATION_EXCEPTION error after a donation is processed

updated

Problem

Soapbox Engage's Donations app enables organizations to create online fundraising pages that accept donations and integrate with Salesforce.  Sometimes, visitors attempting to process a donation may error message on the confirmation page after submitting a donation that may include any of the following keywords or phrases.

FIELD_CUSTOM_VALIDATION_EXCEPTION
Validation error on Lead

Typically, the payment gateway associated with the transaction will record the donation successfully.  Here’s some potential causes and solutions for solving this problem.

Possible causes and solutions

1. A Salesforce validation rule stopping creation or editing of record

It is possible that a Salesforce validation rule on the Lead, Opportunity, Contact, Account, or Campaign Member objects may have interrupted the process of proper creation of information in Salesforce.

Confirmation

  1. Login to the Salesforce org.
  2. Navigate Setup > Object Manager.
  3. For each of the Lead, Account, Contact, Opportunity, and Campaign Member object, see if there is a validation rule that may be stopping the Soapbox Engage processes from completing successfully.  Typically, the specific object and reason will be listed in the error message.

Fix

  1. Update the Salesforce validation rule to allow transactions from Soapbox Engage to process successfully, which will be dependent on the type of validation rule created.
