Why is there both a Closed Won and Pledged Opportunity with the same Close Date for a new Recurring Donation in Salesforce?

updated

When a new initial recurring donation is processed by Soapbox and saved to the Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack, you may see both a Closed Won Opportunity associated with the new Recurring Donation record as well as a Pledged Opportunity with the same Close Date.

If you are using the default values for NPSP Settings, the Opportunity records associated with the new Recurring Donation record could like this:

  • A "Closed Won" Opportunity with a Close Date on the date of the initial transaction
  • A  "Pledged" Opportunity with a Close Date on the date of the initial transaction
  • A "Pledged" Opportunity with a Close Date one month after the date of the initial transaction

If you look in your NPSP settings, you will likely see that a parameter, Installment Opportunity Auto-Creation may be set to: "Always Create Next Installment".

To resolve the issue of the first Pledged Opportunity being created with a Close Date of the date of the transaction, set Installment Opportunity Auto-Creation to "Disable First Installment on Create" and click Save.
