Opening a checkout link

updated

With the Auctions app, your organizer can send you a secure link to your checkout by email or text message. The link opens your statement so you can see what you owe and pay it. You don't need to sign in or remember a password.

What the link looks like

By email. The subject is "Your checkout link - [auction name]". The email says "You have a checkout balance ready to pay for [auction name]. Use the secure link below — no login required." and has a View and pay your checkout button. Below the button, it tells you the date the link expires, for example "This link expires on September 26, 2026 and can only be used for this checkout." It also includes the full web address, which you can copy into your browser if the button doesn't work.

By text message. The message reads "[auction name] checkout: [link] (expires [date])".

A payment reminder from your organizer is this same email, with a new link.

Opening the link

Click the button in the email, or tap the link in the text message. You go straight to the auction's checkout page, where you can review your statement and pay. For how to pay, see Paying your auction balance.

  • If you have an account with the organization, the link also signs you in to it. Any cards you saved are offered when you pay.
  • If you don't have an account, you can still see your statement and pay. You have no saved cards to choose from, so click Use a new card, or use Apple Pay or Google Pay where your device supports them.

If someone else was signed in on the same browser, for example on a shared device at the event, the link signs them out and opens your checkout instead. The page tells you so once: "You were signed out of [their name]'s account. This is [your name]'s checkout."

How long a link works

  • A link works for 7 days. The expiry date is in the email or text message.
  • When your organizer sends you a new link, older links stop working. Always use the most recent one.
  • After your balance is paid in full, the link can still be used to view your statement and resend your receipt.
  • If something new is added to your balance after you paid in full, the old link stops working. Ask your organizer for a new one.

If the link doesn't work

When a link can't be used, the page shows This link is no longer valid: "This link may have expired or been revoked, and can no longer be used to access this page. Please contact the organization to request a new link." The message is the same whatever the reason.

From that page:

  • Click Back to Auction to return to the auction. If you have an account, click Sign In in the auction header, then open My Checkout from the account menu to see and pay your balance.
  • If the page shows Go to Home instead, the link couldn't be matched to an auction. Contact your organizer for a new link.

Note: A checkout link is only for viewing and paying your checkout. It is different from the email link used to sign in to an auction, which expires after 15 minutes. See Signing in with an email link.

For administrators

You send checkout links from the auction's Checkouts tab. A link can only be created while the bidder has a balance to pay. See Sending a bidder a checkout link.
