Problem
You change an auction in the administrator and click Save or Apply. The page reopens on the tab you were on, with an error message like this one:
Nothing was saved. Jordan Lee changed this auction at 7:42 PM CDT, after you opened it. This page now shows the latest version. Make your change again and save.
The message names the administrator who saved last and the time of that save, in your site's time zone. A save made on an earlier day shows the date as well, for example Oct 7, 7:42 PM CDT. When the name isn't available, the message starts Nothing was saved. Someone else changed this auction.
Why this happens
Several administrators can have the same auction open at once. Saving an auction saves every setting on the page, not only the one you changed. If someone else saved the auction after you opened it, your page still held the older settings, and saving it would have put them back over the newer ones. On event night, that is how an extended closing time or a paused auction could be undone by accident.
Soapbox Engage now checks for this when you save. When the auction was saved after you opened your page, your save is refused and nothing is changed.
Note: The name in the message can be your own. This happens when you have the auction open in two browser tabs or on two devices and save in one of them, then save in the other.
What to do
- Read the page as it now stands. It shows the auction as the other administrator saved it.
- Check whether your change is still needed. The other administrator may have made the same change.
- Make your change again.
- Click Save.
If the same message appears again, someone is still saving the auction. Agree who will make the remaining changes, then try again.
What is and is not lost
Only the changes you made on that page since you opened it are lost, and only the ones you had not saved. Nothing is partly saved.
Everything the other administrator saved is kept. Work you did on tabs that save on their own, such as Bidders, Items, Paddle Raise and Checkouts, is also kept. Adding a bidder, editing an item or recording a pledge does not cause this message for you or for anyone else.
Note: To avoid the message during a live event, open the auction just before you change a setting, and save promptly. A page that has been open for hours is the most likely to be out of date.
