How the contents of a calendar item are defined for the Add to Calendar links on the event detail and event confirmation page and email

updated

In the Events app, there are a number of places where a registrant can click an add to calendar link to add the event to their calendar of choice, be that Google, Outlook, or a generic iCal file. The contents of the calendar item will vary slightly depending on where it is clicked.

The difference between the two sets of links is to allow the inclusion of privileged information regarding the event in the calendar item that is only available to those who have registered.

For the add to calendar links on the event detail page, the contents of the calendar item will include the following:

  • Calendar item title: Name of the event
  • Calendar item date and time: Date and time of the event
  • Calendar item location: Venue of the event, if one has been defined
  • Calendar description: The calendar description consists of two parts:
    • The portion of the Event Description that follows a Read More link in the WYSIWYG editor, if one is used. If no Read More link is used, the entire Event Description is included.
    • "For details, click here: " with a hyperlink to the event detail page

For the add to calendar links on the event confirmation page or confirmation email, the contents of the calendar item will include the following:

  • Calendar item title: Name of the event
  • Calendar item date and time: Date and time of the event
  • Calendar item location: Venue of the event, if one has been defined
  • Calendar description: The calendar description consists of these elements:
    • If the confirmation email uses the standard template, the Host Header and Host Message
    • If the confirmation email uses the custom template, the Email Text
    • The portion of the Event Description that follows a Read More link in the WYSIWYG editor, if one is used. If no Read More link is used, the entire Event Description is included.
    • "For details, click here: " with a hyperlink to the event detail page

Excluding Event Description from Calendar Item's Description

If you wish to exclude the event description entirely from the calendar item's, you can choose to place the Read More link in the WYSIWYG editor at the very beginning of the event description. It is important to note that this will also remove the description from the Upcoming Events view in Soapbox.
