With the Auctions app, a bidder is asked for their details the first time they try to bid or buy, rather than when they create an account. What they are asked for depends on how the auction has been set up.
What a bidder sees
The first time a signed-in bidder clicks Bid Now or Buy Now, a Set up bidder details step appears if anything the auction requires is still missing. It shows their name and the email address they signed in with, then asks only for what is outstanding — a mobile phone, a payment method, a shipping address, or some combination.
Once saved, they continue to their bid. They are not asked again unless the auction's requirements change.
A bidder who already has everything the auction requires never sees this step at all.
Signing in without a bidder record
Someone who already has an account with your organization but has never bid in this auction is asked to become a bidder the first time they bid. They keep their existing account; a bidder record is created for them and linked to it.
What the bidder can change later
Bidders can revisit their own details at any time from My Preferences in the account menu, where they can add or change a payment method, a shipping address and a mobile number, and set their notification and anonymity preferences.
For administrators
What a bidder is asked for is controlled per auction — see Choosing what bidders must provide. If you have not required anything, bidders go straight from signing in to bidding.
You can also record any of these details on a bidder's behalf from the auction's Bidders tab, which is the usual way to handle someone who registers at the door or over the phone.
