Winning an item and completing payment

With the Auctions app, everything you win, buy or pledge in an auction is added to a single balance. You pay it from My Checkout in the account menu. Your organizer may also charge a card you have saved, or record a cash or check payment for you. Nothing is charged automatically when an item closes.

How you pay

When you win an item, buy one with Buy Now, or make a pledge, it is added to your balance on My Checkout. You can pay the balance there at any time, in full or in part. See Paying your auction balance.

Your organizer may also:

• charge a card you have saved for the auction,
• record a cash or check payment you make in person, or
• email or text you a link to your checkout. See Opening a checkout link.

When your balance reaches zero, you receive an itemized receipt by email.

Adding a payment method

Saving a card makes paying quicker, and it lets your organizer charge that card for you. You manage your cards from the My Preferences page.

1. Sign in to the auction.
2. Click the account menu in the auction header.
3. Click My Preferences.
4. Under Payment Method for This Auction, click Add new payment method.
5. In the Enter Card Manually window, enter the card details in the payment form.
6. For Name on card, enter the cardholder's name.
7. For Card nickname, enter an optional label such as "My Visa" to tell saved cards apart.
8. Under Billing address, select the Country, then enter the street address, city, state, and postal code.
9. Click Save Payment Method.

Important: You can save a payment method only on sites that take payments through Stripe.

Note: Apple Pay or Google Pay may appear as options in the payment form, where your device supports them. The Country list starts with the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, followed by other countries.

Choosing which card is used

Saved cards are listed with their card type, last four digits, and expiry date.

Each card not currently chosen for this auction shows a Use for This Auction button. Click it to make that card the one used for this auction. The chosen card is labeled Selected for This Auction. A card that is your default across the site is also labeled Default.

Your saved cards belong to your account, so they appear in every auction you take part in. The card you choose with Use for This Auction applies only to the auction you are viewing.

The card selected for this auction is selected for you when you pay from My Checkout, and it is the card your organizer's staff see first if they charge a card for you. You can still choose a different saved card, or a new card, when you pay.

Other settings on the My Preferences page

The same page also holds your Mobile Phone and Mobile notifications settings, your Shipping Address for items won, and the Appear anonymous preference for bid history.

When you win

When a silent bidding item closes and you have won it, you receive an email confirming the win, and a text message if you opted in to text alerts. If you buy a fixed price item, you receive an order confirmation the same way.
