Setting up Auctions emails: sender and branding

updated

With the Auctions app, you can choose who your auction emails come from and where replies go, and give those emails your own colors and fonts. These settings cover the emails the Auctions app sends bidders, including bidder registration confirmations, highest bidder and outbid alerts, order and Buy Now confirmations, checkout links, receipts, and reserve price not met notices.

Setting the sender

To set who Auctions emails come from:

  1. In the administrator, go to Auctions → Configuration. How you reach the Auctions menu depends on which administrator your site has. See Viewing and managing Auctions in the administrator.
  2. Click the Email Sender Identity tab.
  3. For Email From Address, enter the address the emails are sent from.
  4. For Email From Name, enter the name bidders see as the sender, for example your organization's name.
  5. For Email Reply-To Address, enter the address that should receive replies.
  6. For Email Reply-To Name, enter the name shown for the reply-to address.
  7. Click Save.

Leave any field blank to use your site's default sender for that field.

Important: Use a From address on a domain your site is set up to send email from. Mail sent "from" an address your site isn't authorized to use is more likely to land in spam.

Using a different sender for one auction

Each auction can override the sender. On the auction's Details tab, the Settlement Configuration section has four fields: Checkout Email From Address, Checkout Email From Name, Checkout Email Reply-To Address and Checkout Email Reply-To Name.

Despite their names, these set the sender for every email that auction sends, not only checkout emails. The one exception is the reserve price not met email, which always uses the Email Sender Identity tab. Leave a field blank to use the Email Sender Identity tab, or your site's default sender if that is also blank. See Configuring checkout and settlement settings.

Setting email colors and fonts

To brand Auctions emails:

  1. In the administrator, go to Auctions → Configuration.
  2. Click the Email Branding tab.
  3. Set each color you want to change, using the color picker or by entering a hex value such as #1A5276.
  4. For Email Body Font and Email Heading Font, click the field and choose a font from the list. You can type in Search fonts... to narrow the list.
  5. Click Save.
Setting What it colors or styles Default
Email Title Bar Color The title bar at the top of every Auctions email. The title text color is chosen automatically so it stays readable. Green (#04844B)
Email Button Color Call-to-action buttons, such as the checkout link button. Green (#04844B)
Email Link Color Links inside the emails. Blue (#3F60E7)
Email Body Font Body text. Auctions Default ('Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif)
Email Heading Font Headings. Auctions Default ('Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif)

Click Reset beside a setting to return it to its default.

Note: The font list offers only fonts that are already installed on most computers and phones: Arial, Georgia, Helvetica, Tahoma, Times New Roman, Trebuchet MS, Verdana and Courier New. Email programs don't load web fonts, so a font that isn't installed on the reader's device would be replaced anyway.

What these settings cover

Email branding applies to every auction on your site. There is no per-auction override for colors or fonts. Only the sender can be set per auction.

These settings are separate from the Design tab. The Design tab styles the auction pages bidders see on your site, and the Email Branding tab styles the emails. Changing one does not change the other.
