Understanding your checkout statement

updated

With the Auctions app, My Checkout is your statement for the auction. It lists everything you have won, bought and pledged, any sales tax and processing fees, what you have already paid, and the balance still due. To open it, click the account menu in the auction header, then click My Checkout.

The top of the page

The page is headed My checkout, followed by the auction name, your bidder number (for example, Bidder #12) and your name. The bidder number appears only if you have won an item or are currently the top bidder on an item that is still open.

Balance due

The large figure at the top is your Balance due, the amount you still owe. Below it, the page shows how that figure is worked out. Each term appears only when it applies to you.

Term What it means
Subtotal What you have won, bought and pledged, before tax and fees
Sales tax (+) Sales tax on taxable items. Your organizer may use a different name for it.
Processing fee (+) Processing fees added to payments you have already made
Paid (−) The total of your payments so far
Adjustment (−) An amount your organizer has taken off your balance

Click What's in this to see a total for each section of your statement, followed by sales tax, processing fees and Total charges.

Two notes can appear under the balance:

  • Open items you lead. "You're also the top bidder on N open items ($X) — they're added to your balance only if you win when they close."
  • Items held until you pay. "Your won items are held until payment is complete — pay your balance to release them for pickup or shipment." This appears when your organizer holds items until they are paid for. If you only bought fixed-price items, it reads "Your purchases are held…" instead.

What you owe for

Your charges are grouped into sections. A section appears only when there is something in it, and its heading shows how many rows it holds.

Section What it contains Label on each row
Auction wins Items you won by bidding Auction win
Fixed-price purchases Items you bought with Buy Now Buy now
Pledges Pledges you made during the auction's paddle raise Pledge
Other charges Anything else your organizer has added Varies

Each row shows the item's photo, name and amount, plus:

  • ×N after the name when you bought more than one.
  • Either "Fully tax-deductible" or "Fair market value $X · tax-deductible $Y". The deductible part is what you paid above the item's fair market value.
  • Recorded with the date and time the charge was added.

If you bought the same item with Buy Now more than once, your orders are combined into one row. Click N separate orders to see each order with its own date.

Note: Donations made through the auction's Donate link are not on your statement. They are paid and receipted separately when you make them.

Open bids

If you are the top bidder on items that are still open, they are listed under Open bids · N · still bidding. Each is marked Pending with "You're the top bidder — not billed unless you win". These items are not part of your balance.

Changes made by your organizer

Your organizer can remove or change a charge. The change is shown on your statement rather than made silently:

  • Removed by your organizer — no longer on your bill. The original amount is struck through and the row counts as $0.00.
  • Adjusted by your organizer. The original amount is struck through, with the new amount beside it.

Your organizer's reason for a change is not shown on your statement.

Totals

The totals at the bottom of the statement appear in this order:

Line What it shows
Subtotal What you have won, bought and pledged, before tax and fees
Sales tax Shown as, for example, "(8.25% on $400.00 fair-market value)". Sales tax is charged on the fair market value of taxable items.
Processing fee Fees added to your payments so far
Paid to date The total of your payments
Payment history Each payment, collapsed until you click Show all N payments
Adjustment · applied by your organizer An amount your organizer has taken off your balance
Balance due What you still owe
Fair market value received The total fair market value of the items you won or bought
Estimated tax-deductible The estimated tax-deductible part of your charges

In Payment history, each payment shows its date, its amount and how it was paid, for example "Visa ending 4242", "Google Pay · Visa ending 4242", "Cash", "Check" or "Offline payment". Payments your organizer recorded for you say "Recorded by your organizer". A refunded payment shows "$X refunded" or "Fully refunded". Click Show less to collapse the list again.

All amounts are shown in dollars and cents.

When there is nothing to pay yet

Until something is recorded for you, the page reads Nothing to settle yet: "What you buy, pledge or win will appear here once it's recorded."

Reporting a problem

If something on your statement looks wrong, let your organizer know from the page:

  1. At the bottom of My Checkout, click Something look wrong? Report an issue.
  2. For What's wrong?, describe the problem.
  3. For Add a note (optional), add any detail that will help.
  4. Click Send to organizer. The message "Thanks — we've flagged this for review." confirms it was sent.

Note: A report doesn't change your balance or remove anything. Your organizer reviews it and follows up with you. Any change they make then shows on your statement as a removed or adjusted row.
