With the Events and Auctions apps, a ticket holder for an event linked to an auction can also be a bidder. When you change that guest's name or email in the Edit Ticket window, Soapbox asks once what to do with their bidder before it saves.
When you are asked
You are asked when all of these are true:
- The event is linked to an auction.
- The ticket holder is a bidder in that auction.
- You changed the ticket's First Name, Last Name or Email.
A change to any other field saves straight away.
Your choices
The question is titled This guest is bidder # followed by the bidder's number, and shows the name and email the bidder has now.
| Choice | What it does |
|---|---|
| Save and update bidder | Saves the ticket and copies its first name, last name and email to the bidder |
| Save ticket only | Saves the ticket and leaves the bidder as it is. The ticket's Bidder column on the Tickets tab then shows Details differ |
| This is a different person | Saves the ticket and unlinks the bidder from it. See below |
| Keep editing | Closes the question without saving |
Not every choice is offered each time. Save and update bidder appears only when the bidder can be updated. This is a different person appears only when you changed the email from one address to another and the bidder can't be updated.
When the bidder keeps its details
A bidder is updated from its ticket only while it is still a placeholder for the guest. Otherwise the question says The bidder keeps its details and gives the reason: the bidder has an account, a saved card, a card request, or auction activity such as bids, purchases or paddle raise commitments, or the auction is closed.
To change the details of a bidder that has an account, edit the bidder on the auction's Bidders tab. See Linking and unlinking user accounts.
When a ticket goes to someone else
If a guest gives their ticket to another person, the bidder still belongs to the first guest. To keep the two apart:
- On the event's Tickets tab, click Edit for the ticket.
- Enter the new guest's name and email.
- Click Save.
- Click This is a different person.
The window confirms The bidder is no longer linked to this ticket. Create a bidder for the new guest from the Tickets tab. The first guest's bidder keeps its number, bids, card and account. The ticket now shows No bidder, and you can create one for the new guest. See Creating and updating bidders from an Event's Tickets tab.
Note: In a closed auction, the only choices are Save ticket only and Keep editing.
